Taxi licences will be reviewed if Stoke-on-Trent drivers discriminateTaxi drivers have been warned not to discriminate.
COMMUNITY leaders say taxi licences will be reviewed – if drivers are found to be discriminating against certain customers.
The message from Stoke-on-Trent City Council comes after an investigation revealed a number of cabbies in the city had charged disabled passengers extra.
Now the authority has vowed to stamp down on drivers who breach the Disability Discrimination Act.
Councillor Alan Dutton, who is chairman of the licensing and general purposes committee, said: “We will not tolerate discrimination of any kind from hackney carriages, private hire vehicles or from anywhere else. We have the power to revoke licences, and we do not shy away from that responsibility.”
