You cannot compare these global technology companies to traditional co-operative taxi companies operating obsolete business models. It's like comparing apples and bananas. #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o

It would have been remiss of the press not print this story. :-|

Has the Edinburgh papers printed the horror stories and complaints from global app users?

What? You mean the very small percentage of cases most of which are misrepresented from around the world? :?

And what about the millions of regular users who are as happy as pigs in shi*! =D> =D> =D> =D>

In respect to the taxi/ph trades it's a new technology which will take time to get right ... I don't see how this is a story of any great magnitude. :-|

They're quick enough to print horror stories about the cab trade in general, no matter how small a percentage they make up or how many regular cab users are as happy as pigs in shit.

It's called balance. Not something our supposedly free press do much these days.

Gusmac, I don't know how many times I've said this but these app companies are a technology platform. They don't drive taxis, own taxis or legislate and licence taxis. You can't blame the technology!! Yes, in some cases it could have been more thoughtfully introduced subject to licensing regulations but these apps did not rape or murder anyone. They were simply misused. :-|

All technology is open to abuse of some sort and these apps are no different. :-|

That aint quite right though is it.

Apps have a vicarious liability at the very least.

and in the case of India they gave the impression and publicity that they vetted drivers

Nothing to do with the technology. :-| These apps are no different to the safe use of the internet. Yes, you can blame legislation or how to regulate such a technology but it has nothing to do with the technology itself, merely its inception. :-|

You know, I am sure taxi drivers like Dougie, think there are little people living inside your phone, making calls to book a taxi every-time you press the app button. #-o

Uber is just a technology platform, don't you know
I wonder who decided Monsur would be a fine representitive for the platform or did Uber just decide his money was just as good as the next guy's? #-o

Uber is a money making venture using their technology platform and a load of financial and political clout to ride roughshod over the taxi trade and they don't give a flying [edited by admin] who gets hurt in the process.
