E7 2006 old style.

I have had the mother and father of problems in doing such a simple job of changing my fuel filter.

The problem being "the seal". I have had it in and back out numerous times to check on its seating position, as it has leaked severely or has just been an occasional drip. I have also tapped the plastic unit screw top with a hammer, and screwdriver to pinch it tighter, with some success.

Are there any universal seals/ idea that will do a better job ?

Did a new seal come with the fuel filter. A seal like a big O Ring?

Yes all brand new. It seems to be a design fault insomuch that the seal only does the job when it is (to my mind) over tightened. Most sealing jobs are more of a tight pinch as opposed to taking a hammer/mallet, a flat edged tool, and giving it a bang. A garage that I used to take it to (back some years ago) also had the same problem.

I posted basically to see if anyone knows of a better way, or if there are any off the shelf similar (but better) seals that can be purchased without buying another new unit.

The diesel would make a good lubricant also.

I am just going through the options here, the thread might be stripped and not causing a seal?

Not teaching sucking eggs etc

Not a problem as I am open to all thoughts. In this case the thread connects quite normally, unfortunately you have to pinch it very tight to stop it leaking.
