Councillor Gill Tippins said: “At the end of the day we’re not really looking at the interests of the taxi drivers and whether or not they will survive."
And there you have it in a nutshell!

this policy seems somewhat at odds with this article produced last week;

Exeter adopts low emission strategy

if rumours are correct they were accused of far more than that - shame the paper missed the juicy bits really

We are now this is one of the main reasons besides the emission standards that Exeter have introduced higher quality controls because owners that had side loading wav's replaced them with fiat Doblos and Peugeot partners etc leaving us with only handful of cars available to take five or more passengers,
Another crazy idea of the council allowing rear loading wav's to be licensed

So let me get this right.

The council allows doblos to be licensed having previously changed their policy.

the new plates issued must go on side loaders?

I think the papers will be printing more on this after last nights meeting its probably a case of the papers finding a way to print it that is politically correct without up setting certain ethnic groups , pictures where taken of the banner accusing the council of being racist designed and presented by Hassan Al-seaidy himself and notes taken down from the verbal abuse shouted at the councillors for firstly not allowing there community centre to now taking away their livelihoods and that the council are just murders

The council policy was to licence any new Hackney licence as a Wav there was no specifications to weather or not it should be side loading until now Exeter will still remain a mixed fleet of saloons and wheelchair accessible taxis with the fleet being of at least 50% wav's and by 2020 all of them being euro 6 and side loading

You cant beat a really caring councillor.

I remember hearing something similar when they deregulated here - words to the effect of 'we don't care how much its going to cost you, we're going to deregulate so sit down and shut up' - these words came before the labour controlled council actually voted - democracy is great isn't it!

However there is Karma - the councillor that told us the above was later jailed

So let me see if I've got this right.

66 public licences, which belong to the council, were bought for silly money by a small group of people who thought they could hold the people of Exeter to ransom via a cartel? This same (presumably ethnic) group are now playing the race card because the council won't allow their cartel to continue?

Buying a licence is a gamble. They just lost.
Perhaps each licence should have a warning printed on it, for the hard of thinking.

This licence has no value, your money is at risk if you pay for it #-o

when it becomes a free for all and exeter is flooded with taxi's what do you dim wits think will happen?

it leads to higher fares
more congestion
lower earnings, which in turn equals even lower standards
