Central have lost their court case against Edinburgh City Council. ECPH have been granted their booking office license at Edinburgh Airport. I would guess it has cost the CRT members in the region of between £40,000 and £50,000. The question now is!!! Will "Kensnowt" cough up more money to lodge an appeal?

There may be some interesting questions to be asked at the forthcoming AGM.

Word on the grapevine is that Kensnowt and Co. are paying themselves salaries around the 40K mark plus their their taxis are out working. So I wouldn't imagine that £40,000 to £50,000 to lose a court case will bother the members much. They might even vote to give them a raise... #-o #-o #-o #-o

Interesting figures Skull. I think the powers that be of both companies deserve a pay rise. If I was to do that job again I'd be looking for £60k, after tax.

Word on the grapevine is it may have cost double that amount for the court case plus expenses. Ouch. Now I believe the members are entitled to an explanation, don't you Skull?

You are not shy Kaizer but then again, if I was on committee you would need to pay me at least double what they get, simply for risk to my sanity. #-o #-o #-o

Oh and the explanation will go something like this, "we were advised by our lawyers that we had a case and if we had won ... blah, blah, blah...and we were doing this for you boys... now about your radio dues" #-o

Here's an interesting development to get your teeth into Skull. I have information from a very reliable source that Central are back at court on the 9th of April. The sheriff wants Central to pay all the expenses from the case. The judge yesterday stated that "Central" had wasted everyone's time. With the QC's and legal expenses they could be looking at a bill of £100k.

That has to be a real dent in the discount budget. Plenty questions to be asked at the AGM.

What amazes me is how they never learned anything from taking me and Taylor to court? :-k These courts are a bit of a lottery, especially if you don't have a good case to start. #-o

It sounds like the Sheriff is pi**ed off for being forced to listen to a stupid argument with no chance of winning. #-o

A 100K!! They must be mad... #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o

The Central hordes will just blame everyone else. Their discounting policy is crushing the trade and will be their downfall but this £100,000 legal bill spells real trouble.

Who on earth is representing them?

And after this latest debacle should Central have an in house lawyer?

Kensnowt and Travis discounting and managing Central out of business.

From the horses mouth..........

Central Taxis boss Tony Kenmuir says the new arrangement is not “pre booking”. He says the fact that arriving passengers can go to the new office, give their name and destination and pick up a cab as soon as one is available, is “instantaneous”.

He added: “We feel we have a valid argument and we are positive about the outcome of our appeal.”

If some one phoned me and it diverted to my mobile and i was lucky enough to be only 100 yards away from their Pickup point then as a PH I'd still be pre booked, 1 minute, 10 minutes, 10days, whats the difference...its all pre booked. It's not the same as ranking and having someone hop aboard unannounced..

That said, Im never that lucky.

Exactly bloodnock! Now the Central hordes will say at least we're doing something about the private hire........but the exact same procedure has been in operation for years with no challenge?

How were the black cabs knight in shining armour going to run their Gold coloured passats at the Airport?

The silence from all at Central is deafening......

If someone could get a copy of the judgement it would be an interesting read.

Send it to info@taxi-driver.co.uk or to the Captain at the NTA.

Heard a cracking joke doing the rounds on the airport rank tonight, "what's a very costly court case and very costly 5* hotel got in common?" Both have been reported as lost recently by Central, boom boom!.....

Always clever to be wise after the event, but reading the judgement it really was an unwinable case.

It seems to me that the cab firm and scots association have fallen into the trap of believing just because they didn't like something it automatically means it's illegal.

Glad it's not my cash that has been wasted.
