Captain, in Edinburgh yes they can and do. There are many brief holders driving PHC vehicles especially out of Edinburgh airport. I am interested in your and others take on the implications for Reggie and crew on this given his acknowledgement that both Hackney on a pre booked hire and PHC are always doing this yet Reggie thinks the Greenways are sacrosanct to the hacks?

there's caselaw in England which states a Hackney Carriage is always a Hackney Carriage - the only person that can drive one is a licensed hackney carriage driver -

Fat Boab give up the crusade m8 your not getting the greenways, simples, too many objections from Lothian Buses, Cyclists, emergancy services and the police, Cmon Boab your sounding like Skull, how many tickets you had, I feel for you but it's about choice

All the bodies you quote can object all day long however I don't think a Judge will be influenced by objections, they are only interested in applying the law and fair interpretations of the law.

And to sum up Reggie, the whole point of me raising the subject is in light of the proposed changes (as per the thread name) that are coming unless our esteemed trade reps get their collective fingers out you may find saloon cars are in the greenways and plying for hire in a short period of time.

I personally think the Scottish Government are wrong on this one - private hire is a choice - each company should set their own standards with the local authority being their to maintain minimum standards in respect of the vehicle, driver and operator.

I agree our trade reps need to get their fingers out, I'm a great believer in actions speak much louder than words, the jury is out at the moment

I agree with that CC, I'm sure Edinburgh like Glasgow will see it the same way, we need to put pressure on but there lies my concern, our trade just tends to let things happen.

Simple matter of FOI request for the road traffic order setting out he terms of use of the greenway.

And by the way it may help to read

CIVIC GOVERNMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT 1982
TRANSPORT ACT 1985
LICENSING OF TAXIS AND PRIVATE HIRE CARS
Booklet for guidance of applicants for licences and for information of Taxi and Private Hire Car Operators.

Function of a taxi
For the avoidance of doubt it should be noted that a vehicle holding a Taxi Licence is always to be considered a taxi notwithstanding that some journeys are as a result of a prior booking. "
