Oh Dear.
Someone is a bit touchy tonight or is a little too much of the Blue Goose again.
Not sure how you worked out that I think everyone is stupid just because I stated, what I thought was, an obvious and honest observation.

A post is made about a new contract.....so what? Why is everything so end of the world serious with you?

You rubbish taxi driving and those that work within the trade at every given opportunity. So many do a fantastic job whilst dealing with the traffic, road closures, bus drivers etc etc! Oh and the public sober and drunk!

But then comes the guys like you, the mumpers and moaners! No real cohesive positive vision for the future but just want to blame everyone else. The pessimism is overwhelming. I often think if you delivered gold to their door they would say " I thought it would be like eh more shiny"

Gary used to live on the old Haymarket Rank.

There were a group of taxi drivers who frequented this rank and formed a bond so much so that they gave themselves a name. The self proclaimed President of the group was the now retired Kenny Shearer.
They proudly named themselves the Haymarket Halfwits. (no joke and I am not having a go at anyone that is what they named themselves)

One day Kenny came into the City Cabs office and a conversation struck up about one of his members who had recently shown his usual low standards in dealing with one of our customers.
Kenny proudly announced that the individual had recently been thrown out of the Halfwits.

"Aye" he said proudly "the lad it to stupid to be a halfwit".

Perhaps that's where Garry has formed his opinion about the whole of the trade. This is the rank he may have been radicalised on.

I frequented the Haymarket Rank for just over a year back in the day when CRT thought it was a good idea to take Jim and I to court. #-o They lost of course and ended up coughing up 8K to two party litigants on top of their own legal costs of at least 50K. =D> =D> =D> Oh and if my memory serves me correctly, that was around the time you and Dod were meeting with the boys from CRT Towers, going on skiing trips and having clandestine meetings with ECPH. #-o     You do remember those days don't you Les?

Les the simple truth is, you've have gotten yourself and City Cabs in little too deep with your chums out at the airport and now, for all intents and purposes, they own your ass.

Oh and Les, everything I have said about the Caley is a fact. It's a Pig in a Poke.

So come on Les what other scraps have your been thrown from the master's table? #-o It just can't be the Caley. #-o #-o #-o #-o

Sad very sad.........and why I do not drive for either of the main radio circuits anymore. Stories about individuals that happened many many years ago repeated by individuals who really should no better.
The trade needs to take a long hard look at itself. The publicity surrounding Central and its failed court cases and costs to the membership are sad as are the huge discounts it offers to get large contracts. The constant berating of the methods (allegedly) used by City in acquiring the Airport contract is a constant topic of abuse.
Methods used to get contracts whether they are silly discounts, payments to hotel managers/door staff etc etc are and always will be dependant on the Committee of the day's choice of methods used to get work. Sadly whilst over the last 25 plus years I have been a taxi driver the PHC has moved from being a small time operation and no threat to Black cab companies, to an entity that in some areas has taken over from Black Cabs as a preferred provider for the customer requiring a taxi service.
All this has happened whilst City and Central have fought each other to get the "cream" of the work in the City. At the same time the PHC fleet has expanded alongside the volume of the work it has acquired from the Black taxi fleet.
So for me its obvious that over the next decades the following WILL happen. (Unless City and Central change the habits of a lifetime)

City and Central will continue on the same roads fighting each other and losing work backwards and forwards to each other
Drivers and owners will go along with the "Committee's" of the day to their faces, and moan behind their backs on the ranks
PHC will get bigger and get MORE of the larger contracts.
People on both Committee's will be subjected to personal and over the top abuse when work comes and goes to each other.

Glad I am just a street car now because......

nobody to answer to
no getting pulled for miles for crap work
no rules etc that are good and proper if applied to ALL the fleet
work an extra bit each shift and my money is the same as when I was on the radio circuits :D

Good luck to you all in the radio companies as reading this site makes me think you are all stuck in time. All these arguments over contracts, work, companies etc etc have been going on for DECADES, its just the characters on the Committees that change, same moans different era.
As I said in another post I do not read a radio, App or any other method to make money, there is still a very good living to be made on the streets in Edinburgh if you WORK hard, and do not sit in garages or kebab shops moaning about everbody else.
I wonder if in another 10 years or so the same issues will be getting discussed in here #-o I think we all know they will........and that's what is sad.

Sad sad world?????
Missing one important point and that is the Edinburgh Public enjoy one of the best taxi services in the country, partly driven by healthy competition from both within the Public Hire Sector and the Private Hire.
The good thing is we all have a choice to work within a radio circuit or as a street car. And now for an App company.

The Edinburgh trade has evolved over the last 25 years to its present high standard of customer service levels.
No more walking out to Craigmillar Park or the Dean Bridge before you see a yellow light and for those of us who choose to sit behind the wheel and drive we can all make a very good living.

The so called politics on this site is a tiny atom of what the whole Edinburgh Trade is about. Forums, unfortunately, generally only attract negativity with people happy to comment with a degree of impunity behind their chosen screen names.

Say what you like you will travel far and wide before you experience a more professional and reliable taxi service than we have in Edinburgh and this has been achieved through the trades commitment to service.

Indeed you have to look no further than this forum to see an indicator of how far we have came in driver standards.

Absolute tosh!!

Your healthy competition is about propping up your trade on the backs of driver rentals while allowing Ph to meet the expansion in public demand for services even at the expense of losing major contracts such as the airport. Christ, you are so far down the food chain you are now working for PH. #-o

Your choice is to pay hiked radio dues to support gravy train committees working to protect their own interests by sewing dissension between two groups of shareholders who are fundamentally the same, or drive a street car? That's your real choice. #-o The App company is a new development. =D> =D> =D>

Bollocks!! #-o

It’s the PH that “has evolved over the last 25 years to its present high standard of customer service levels” while the committees have done almost everything in their power to allow this to happen, so much so, you now work from the pocket of PH. #-o #-o #-o

Yeah and that has nothing to do with the Edinburgh taxi fleet expanding to meet demand but everything to do with Ph becoming more efficient and operating satellites in almost every area of the city. #-o

Now that is negative!! It’s forums like this one that give people the opportunity to air views which would normally be confined to the rank. =D> =D> =D>

Your “trade’s commitment to service" is guys working long hours to pay hiked rentals and radio dues in order to earn a crust they can actually live off, which I might add, is at least half what owners and drivers were earning 25 years ago. #-o

“Driver standards” where do you get this pi*h? What driver standards? #-o #-o #-o Oh you mean guys new to the trade that don't know enough to see through your shi*e.

We shall just have to agree to disagree.
You negativity was with you when you had a licence and is ingrained even more now that you are on the outside.

But isn't that the point? You are not disagreeing with anything I've said. You merely claim that I am being negative, which is not quite the same thing. [-X [-X [-X

Everything in life moves forward our trade is not exempt, I'm happy to evolve with it, I'm also happy to form working relationships, the airport demanded it's Taxi/Ph cars work alongside each other but that doesn't mean we are in bed with each other, Hotel's are and have been doing the same for years, it all comes down to the customers choice of vehicle.

I'm happy that City Cabs are doing what the customer ask's, it's they who are dictating not committee's, if a Hotel comes along and offers the black cab work, we take it but we know in this day and age the days of exclusivity are long gone, if a hotel wants a quid per job it's because they know they can get it, if it covers their staff taxi account they'd be foolish not to, welcome to the THE TRADE 2015

Like it or not the world had moved on since Jimmy Reid made his speech.
Perhaps it's time to recognise the good bits.
