The taxi business is gradually being dragged out of the vacuum that is has existed in for many years whether we like it or not. The competition may come from the Private Hire sector or it may come from the Venture Capitalists investing in the App companies.

The Public Hire sector that will flourish and continue to succeed will be those who embrace technology and have a belief in their own ability to provide a service to the public when they need it.

Regulation and restriction is a good thing and these help maintain a standard in both drivers and vehicles, however these two factors can, when over used by Local Authorities, cause our trade to look backward and dig our heels in rather than putting our energies into improving our working practices.

If we firmly believe in the product we are selling then we should have nothing to fear.
It is this attitude, I believe, that helped City Cabs win the Airport contract for the Public Hire.

Putting the politics of it all to one side I can never understand why anyone can object, or appeal against, someone doing something that they were more than willing to do themselves. Especially if it involves legal actions and the potential level of costs that are being discussed at the moment.

There is a decision to be made here and that is whether we dig our heels in and spend our energies trying to remain in a vacuum, which is sure to disappear in the future, or whether we choose to believe in the service we provide and build on that.

There are certain natural measuring tools that can be used to ascertain if you are on the right road in life.
