I WANTED MY WIFE MURDERED
12:00 - 26 August 2005
A Plymouth taxi driver today admitted trying to get a police officer to murder his wife in a contract killing.
Nigel Cox, aged 39, pictured right, of Leigh Court, Eggbuckland, pleaded guilty to attempting to get a police officer known as 'H' to carry out the contract.
Dressed in a blue shirt and tie, Cox admitted the charge of soliciting to murder Amanda Jane Cox, his 35-year-old wife, between June 6 2005 and June 15 2005.
He was due to be sentenced at lunchtime today by His Honour Judge Francis Gilbert QC at Plymouth Crown Court. Cox was originally arrested by police at his home on June 14. He was taken to Charles Cross police station and questioned by detectives.
He was later charged with asking an officer to carry out the contract killing.
His wife was in court today along with members of Cox's family for the short hearing.
They were due to return today to find out how long Cox is expected to spend behind bars.
