That's so incorrect on many levels.

When VAT came it it was to replace the old puchase tax, If I remember correctly it was 10% then went down to 8% for...And Its bloody well crept up ever since. 12.5% 15% and now 20%...It's a bloody rip off. Taxed on Income and Taxed on Spending and Taxed on fuel as well..3 Taxes off one income. How come If we are being Taxed so much that the National debt is So Big?

Domestic fuel is taxed at 5% and books and clothes are still zero rated.

It was purchase tax prior to 1973 when we joined the EU when VAT replaced it and it was a conservative Chancellor that set the rate at 10% and in 1974 it was a Labour chancellor that reduced it to 8% for non luxury goods, luxury goods were charged at a higher rate. It was a conservative government that introduced a standard rate of 15% across the board and got rid of the luxury tax (can't think why  ). It was also Conservatives that introduced tax on domestic fuel with the plan being an increase from the 8% introduction rate to 15% but they lost the next election in 1995. For the most part Labour have tried to reduce VAT on essentials and Conservatives, although they say they will reduce VAT seem to raise them.

How do we know if we do have a National debt that is as big as they say? It is so readily accepted by many that it actually exists...as in a normal debt. It would seem that practically every country (most certainly in the Euro zone) owes money - I think we have to find out who the world "Wonga" man/woman is :doubt:

The so called national debt is no doubt ANOTHER elaborate con designed to keep us from getting wealthy enough to challenge the elite :-k
