How do we know if we do have a National debt that is as big as they say? It is so readily accepted by many that it actually exists...as in a normal debt. It would seem that practically every country (most certainly in the Euro zone) owes money - I think we have to find out who the world "Wonga" man/woman is :doubt:

The so called national debt is no doubt ANOTHER elaborate con designed to keep us from getting wealthy enough to challenge the elite :-k

It's money the private sector lends the government usually via purchasing government gilt bonds or at least that's how I understand it

the national debt has been around for hundreds of years - it was invented to raise armies and build a navy

Oh no, not quite as simple as that. They do not tell you how much they have borrowed off of themselves.....in other words - how much do owe owe ourselves  I have no doubt that it is so complex that a 3 year old would find it easier to understand as to how politicians can look you in the eye, smile, make outlandish promises, send young people to wars that have nothing to do with us........and to sleep easily at night. Sorry rant over, and I digressed a little

I cannot see as to how decade in/decade out as to how we can get to a point of owing a figure of money that no nation has ever come back from.........Well! that is if you believe all the BS :doubt:

An interesting choice of word i.e "Invented"..........so, is it invented? or does it actually exist in the form that they say?

When VAT came it it was to replace the old puchase tax, If I remember correctly it was 10% then went down to 8% for...And Its bloody well crept up ever since. 12.5% 15% and now 20%...It's a bloody rip off. Taxed on Income and Taxed on Spending and Taxed on fuel as well..3 Taxes off one income. How come If we are being Taxed so much that the National debt is So Big?

Domestic fuel is taxed at 5% and books and clothes are still zero rated.

But It's still 20% on vehicle Fuel
