Why do they want tinted windows? Is it to hide the children in the back?

Most new cars come with them now.

Luton private hire drivers go on strike as part of dispute with council

The strike will take place outside the Town Hall

PRIVATE hire drivers in Luton will be taking strike action today (April 15) as part of a long running dispute with the council.

The drivers are accusing Luton council of breaking its promises following a series of negotiations in the last year.

Mushtaq Ahmed, chairman of the Luton Borough Drivers' Union, said the all day strike is because of working conditions he said are damaging their trade.

The union has been in discussion with Luton Borough Council over a number of issues, including access to bus lanes, permission to have manufactured tinted windows and five minutes 'grace' when stopping in the town centre.

The council said its 'primary concern is public safety', but added that it would 'continue to engage with the union and other drivers and operators'.

Luton residents and motorists experience disruption as private hire drivers strike

THE chair of a Luton driver's union which was on strike earlier today has said they are now waiting for the council's response to their demands.

Mushtaq Ahmed, from the Luton Borough Driver's Union, said some private hire drivers took action today because they wanted better working conditions.

The strike began in Leagrave this morning and finished up outside the Town Hall.

The union has been in discussion with Luton Borough Council over a number of issues, including access to bus lanes, permission to have manufactured tinted windows and five minutes 'grace' when stopping in the town centre.

In a statement, the council said its 'primary concern is public safety', but added that it would 'continue to engage with the union and other drivers and operators'.

Mr Ahmed said: "We had phase one and today was phase two, and it was just to show that we are together and what our demands are.

"It's to show that we do have support and now phase three is going to be a bit drastic.

"We have given them a week and it could be longer but they have our email and what our demands are.

"Cllr Hazel Simmonds did respond to some of them but we did not agree with them, so that's why we did the demonstration."

Lets hope they know how to deal with scabs :-" :-" I could advise them

Their tactics could be refined slightly "demands" could be toned down a bit to "concerns" much easier for a council to share the trades concerns than submitting to their "demands" give them a way out short of a climb down

Lets hope their campaign is successful =D> =D> =D> good to see them getting organised =D> =D> =D>

Perhaps UNITE could exert some political influence ......................they should avoid the GMB .currently run by to$$ers in that area #-o #-o
