Hey guys, having a bit of a headache atm with a local authority due to going fully independent rather than working for a radio base.


can someone in the know tell me if i'm doing anything wrong here?

I have 1 vehicle fully licenced and plated by my local authority.
I have 1 driver(me) fully licenced by my local authority.
I have no booking office licence due to having only 1 vehicle(afaik I don't need a licenced booking office until I run 4 or more cars)
my bookings prebooked in advance and are taken either via email or via telephone at my home address which is in the same area I am licenced in booking.


I've been told so many different things by various people in the licencing section my heads literally about to explode.

i'm operating illegally as I'm working from home rather than a booking office
i'm breaking the law because I don't have a 2 way radio In my car.
i'm not allowed to work for myself

currently waiting on a phone call back from a senior licencing officer within my LA to discuss the above but someone please tell me if i'm doing something wrong here.

Depending on your district do you need a operators licence ?

but quick update. phoned the council again, spoke to a different licensing officer and she says I don't need a booking office as long as I run less than 3 cars. close enough for me (the Scottish government say a booking office only need be licensed if it takes bookings for 4 or more cars.

Your licensing department are talking shite. You don't need to work for a booking office, Your plate is your operating licence and there is no reason why you can't be self employed.

Direct them to the CGSA 1982 and ask them what bit they gleaned those nuggets from.

Nothing in the CGSA about this but it may be a condition of licence in your area. A bit like Edinburgh's door stickers.

You could apply for an exemption from this but no guarantee they will grant it.

Alternatively, Just print your name (as it appears on your vehicle licence) with your mobile number and stick it to the inside of the rear window, near the top or bottom. No font size is stated.
