also the issue on picking up passengers that may be bullying , or look intimidating etc,,if i dont like the look of someone or by the way there acting in the early hours of the morning,,i dont pick them up full dtop,,nevermind the council and thier pathetic ``regulations``. the council gamble with our lives,,this is why they wont allow cctv in cars if one chooses to install them,,thier values are pathetic !!!!
keep yourself safe, you are number one, the council isnt going to pay your mortgage if you get injured doing your job,,so feel the vibes, over time you will develop a certain feel for the job,,be safe and good luck.

there are also a few things ive learned since taking up private hire since the last two years.
1= the customer is NOT always right
2= d**k heads are where you find them
3= the council dont care about drivers welfare ``FACT``
4= you become an excellent judge of character.

That said,,this job is extremely enjoyable, you meet good folk too, dont forget,,make good friends from time to time, and depending on the firm you drive for,can make good money, the only limitation is yourself and the hours you put in,.

I would tend never to favour the physical method, it never solves anything, and they may be armed, better just to tell them to get out.

I often wonder what sort of human being can derive any pleasure from doing anything that has such a negative affect on another person, be it physical or Psychological.

always try and talk it out FIRST...with any/most situations but....there are some moments when....u gotta do it...

er...sorry m8 but...wake up to planet reality ..its here and happening...people on a whole a getting more and more violent towards each other...and if you are deemed to be soft,timid,walk-over...then people WILL [edited by admin] on ya every time and walk right over ya all the time...
i,m NOT saying go around with an attitude...hell no...just knowing the time and place..

and no...i dont get any pleasure at all from harming another person...either physical or Psychological but....this world IS dog eat dog..if ya know what i mean  and its only gonna get worse.

just my 10cents worth and nothing personal at all

I was referring to passengers, not you  however I know what you mean, but why are people getting more violent towards each other?

And why should the fact that someone is "deemed a soft, timid walkover" leave them open to abuse by others, do they not have the same rights as the rest of the human race.

I think it is a pretty complex thing, it involves many different parameters of human nature.

Also there is a fine line between bullying and harrasment, the thing is though, they usually trip themselves up sooner or later.

I do fully acccept that topics can be "hi-jacked" perhaps somewhat inadvertantly and unthinkingly... but this serves no purpose to any of us.

Tesco have 4p of a tin of Mexican style beans this week.

Can you beat anyone to death with a can of beans or would that be considered half baked. #-o

I believe I read your story in the Evening times Charlie. It focused on the terrible treatment by the company towards you after the incident. Very sorry to hear about that. Did you get any justice?

Yes mate - I was offered a deal (which I cannot go into details about - legal bull etc)

I fought them until they crumbled.

I was the first to stand up to them like I did, I did everything from totally embarrasing senior managment in meetings where they were trying to sack me to exposing a cover up with all the paperwork I had kept.

Me and the company both knew I had far too much on them for me to walk away empty handed.

It has turned me into a different person, in goods ways as well as bad - temper is still bad at times though (although I do manage to walk/talk away most of the time)

Always ask them, if there are more than one way to a destination, which way they want to go.

And if they have a guide dog to do you tell them to put it on the boot? lol

I can't get away from that Birmingham test whoever dreamt that up was a pure genius.

It has a point though, in London there has been stories in the press about drivers of Minicabs (suprised? ) refusing guide dogs because of religious grounds, whatever they may be?

My only objection is be dogs that have irresponsable owners, who seem to think its ok to walk the dog through a muddy park and then hail you.

I know lots of drivers who will only take working dogs as laid down by current legislation. In fact because of the chity state of the TX wheel chair ramps I know lots of drivers who wont take over large wheelchair occupants.
