Electric taxis allowed on Edinburgh streets after licensing change

Electric taxis could soon be on Edinburgh’s streets after licensing conditions were changed.

Earlier this week, the council’s regulatory committee agreed to change the requirements.

It means electricity-powered cars can now be used as both taxis and private hire vehicles.

Cllr Gavin Barrie said: "The report recommended a change to the licensing rules because the current conditions, which were set in 2006, allowed cars powered by liquid fuel only.

"This change will take into account advances in vehicle performance technology, and will give drivers the option of using cars that can be less damaging to the environment and will improve air quality, through reductions in harmful carbon emissions."

"Range extended electric hybrid vehicle"

What was the original forecast range before a recharge was necessary and what has the new forecast been extended to?

310 mile range, and 50% range in half after half an hours charge

Look for one soon on a rank near you, some secondhand ones coming onto the market
