Alleged rape victim gives evidence from beyond the grave in taxi driver sexual assault trial

In a rare legal move, a jury listened to the 20-year-old's video-taped interview in the sex assault trial of taxi driver Masood Mansouri

An alleged rape victim has given evidence from beyond the grave after committing suicide just days after the claimed kidnap attack.

In a rare legal move, a jury listened to the 20-year-old's video-taped interview in the sex assault trial of taxi driver Masood Mansouri.

But seven days after the alleged rape, the woman fatally overdosed on her mum's blood pressure pills.

Chester Crown Court watched the alleged victim's police statement describing how last August's incident left her feeling 'hopeless and worthless.'

Judge Raj Shetty told a jury at Chester Crown Court the circumstances were an 'unusual factor' as they could listen to her evidence, although she was no longer alive.

The Mirror has decided not to name the woman, who has accused 33-year-old Mansouri of kidnap, sexual assault and rape, which he denies.

The university student had been to a halls of residence party and drank cocktails having earlier downed half a bottle of vodka.

The group tried to ring for a taxi to a nightclub in Broughton, Cheshire, prosecutor Nicholas William said, but after the alleged victim got into a cab and told the driver to wait for her friends, he drove off, it was heard.

Mansouri, at the wheel of a BMW, the jury was told, entered a residential area, panicking the victim who texted a friend: "I've been kidnapped."

A second message read: "I'm not joking," before another, seven seconds later, said: "Literally scared."

The trial heard Mansouri ordered her upstairs at his home and tried to kiss her before putting his hand up her skirt. She was then raped, Mr William said, and was described as 'really rough' by the woman.

The 'hysterical' victim, the jury heard, ran outside and hid behind a bush. Later, at home, she told her mum what had happened.

In her police interview, played in court, the woman said: “I woke up yesterday and realised what had happened and the seriousness of it and it hit me. I felt worthless and helpless and that I needed to tell someone.

“I don’t feel like this is something which someone should be able to get away with.”

Describing the alleged rape, she told cops she 'felt sick', and repeatedly told her attacker: "I want to go, I don’t want to do this."

Mansouri, of Saltney, Cheshire, claims the sex was consensual. The trial continues.

Chester 'fake taxi' rape trial accused gives evidence

Crown court jury hears defendant accessed online porn before offence alleged to have taken place

Masood Mansouri, 33, from Saltney who is on trail at Chester Crown Court accused of kidnap, rape and a serious sexual assault

Analysis of a laptop seized from the home of a man standing trial for rape revealed that pornographic videos and images were accessed minutes before the offence is alleged to have occurred.

Masood Mansouri, 33, of Shannon Close in Saltney, took the stand in the hearing at Chester Crown Court on Friday (April 24).

He is accused of the kidnap, rape and sexual assault of a young woman from Colwyn Bay during the early hours of August 10 last year.

Prosecution claim that the 20-year-old got in Mansouri’s car after mistaking it for a taxi to take her and two friends to Bar 69 in Boughton and that he took her to his home where he carried out the sex attack.

Seven days laster, she committed suicide.

The jury heard that forensic analysis of an Apple MacBook Pro, which police found at his house and seized, showed that it was used to view pornography on August 9 between 5.47pm and 6.38pm, and again between 11.15pm and 12.05am on August 10.

Mansouri, who came to live in the UK from Iran in 2005, told the court that his cousin had visited him at his home on the evening of August 9 and showed him something on the Apple MacBook Pro.

He said he did not see what was on the computer screen.

After finishing talking to his wife – who lives in Iran – on Viber at 12.14am on August 10, he said he went out in his car to get something to eat.

He said he had been ‘upset’ because his wife’s family in Iran were worried about their daughter coming to the UK by herself because she does not know anybody and because Mansouri was at work all the time – he has six franchises of car washes which operate in supermarket car parks.

He said he was driving along with his windows wound down when he saw the alleged victim at the side of the road waving ‘at just my car’.

He stopped, he said, because he thought that she might need help or that maybe she knew him.

He said she opened the passenger door, got in the car, closed the door and said hi.

“I asked her where she was going,” he added. “She said Bar 69. I told her I did not know where this place was but I said I could give her a lift to the town centre.

“She said ‘ok, ok’ like she was excited.”

Mansouri said that he drove her into Chester city centre and stopped the car but that she did not get out.

He claimed that she started kissing him after he repeatedly told her that he had to go home.

He said: “She said can we go somewhere more private. She kissed me again and said I am coming with you.”

Earlier in the trial, the court heard that the alleged victim sent three text messages to her friend, the first sent at 12.28am saying she had been kidnapped.

But Mansouri claimed he did not see or hear her using her phone while they were in the car.

After discussing what each other’s names were and whether the complainant had a boyfriend, he said they arrived at his house and that he went inside first.

He said that she requested wine when he asked her if she wanted something to drink, so he poured a glass for her.

Mansouri said that she asked him if he lived alone.

“I was going upstairs to look for my wallet so I said I can show you that there is nobody here, just me.”

He said she followed him upstairs and they went into his bedroom, where he found his wallet and she began to undress.

He claimed she kissed him again and that she initiated consensual sex.

After they had sex, Mansouri testified that she asked him to drop her off in the city centre.

He said she had left the house while he was in the bathroom: “I thought ‘why has she left like this’. I got in my car to look for her for about 15 minutes.”

He said he was ‘very distressed’ that night and could not sleep.

On Tuesday, August 12, he was arrested by police.

The trial continues.

Saltney rapist that posed as taxi driver is jailed for 13 years

A MAN has been jailed for 13 years for posing as a taxi driver and raping a woman who later went on to kill herself.

Masood Mansouri, 33, of Shannon Close, Saltney, was found guilty after a seven day trial of kidnap, sexual assault and rape on August 10 last year.

The 20-year-old woman who was raped, killed herself seven days after the attack.

On Thursday, the jury delivered, after five hours and 20 minutes of deliberation, unanimous guilty verdicts to all the counts.

Sentencing, Judge Raj Shetty said Mansouri had committed a “disgusting offence” and said this had contributed to the woman’s death.

He said: “It would fly in the face of common sense to say that this disgusting offence did not exacerbate or shatter her state of mind, and was probably one of the final straws for this young girl.”

Earlier in proceedings evidence from the victim was read out to the court through a video interview recorded before her death by police.

In it she said she had gone to visit two friends who went to the University of Chester and they had gone to a party. They decided to go into town to Bar Six T Nine at about midnight and she tried repeatedly to phone a taxi from the King Kabs firm but was unsuccessful.

She tried to flag a taxi outside the halls in Hough Green and managed to stop a car, which was Mansouri’s and got into the front seat.

During police interview she said: “I got into it straight away without taking notice of it, I assumed it was a taxi. He asked me where I wanted to go, I said Bar Six T Nine and I said we have to wait for my two friends.

“He waited for about a minute but he started driving. I still thought he was a taxi driver and I thought he was being impatient. I was annoyed and said we needed to go back but he wouldn’t so I said just drop me off in Chester city centre.

“I don’t really know Chester so it was only when he pulled into a residential street that I realised I wasn’t in a taxi.”

The rape victim texted one of her friends saying she had been “kidnapped” and was “literally scared”.

Mansouri then pulled into his address on Shannon Close and told her to go into the house. She repeatedly said she didn’t want to go in and wanted to go and see her friends in Chester. She said she felt “trapped and intimidated” so she went into the house and into his bedroom where she was sexually assaulted and raped.

Afterwards Mansouri lay on the bed and the woman took the opportunity to run out of the bedroom and out of the house.

Mansouri denied rape and said the sexual contact was consensual. He said that he was driving to the city centre to get some food when he saw a woman put her hand out. He thought he might know her so stopped and she got into the car.

Mansouri said he took her home and they had consensual sex and afterwards she still wanted to go into town so he asked her to wait downstairs while he put on some trousers. When he got downstairs she was gone.

But the jury threw out his version and unanimously convicted him. Andrew Thomas QC, defending, said that as a result of these proceedings Mansouri may be deported back to Iran once he has completed his sentence.

Mansouri was jailed for a total of 13 years and told he would have to sign the sex offenders register for life.
