I think that it is because of the massive swing in the Scottish vote - the bottom line is that labour lost Scotland....game over.

I agree to a point.

However I suspect a lot of voters were Tory shy, in that they only wanted to be a Tory in the ballot booth.

And many folks, including a significant amount of Scots didn't want Labour.

SNP 1 million votes = 56 seats. UKIP 3 million votes = 1 seat.

as Gus pointed out a day ago - it was put to the electors and they rejected proportional representation

In Carlisle the Tory's increased their majority - but it seemed to typify labours arrogant approach to a seat they thought they'd easily win - putting up an inexperienced politician and treating the seat with contempt.

All the euphoria in Scotland this morning will soon dissipate later this morning when the cold realization sets in.

They are still Scottish.

Hopefully VINCE CABLE will get a taste of ZERO hours.... .best result of the night for me.

Nothing will change for the better no matter who got in. Cameron was governing with a wet echo in his hand during the last parliament, so I expect a sabre this time around with him wanting to leave his indelible mark for historical family/personal reasons - exciting times ahead, especially when you have already tended your resignation to yourself.

The SNP have scored an Own goal, they bumped out both the liberals as well as labour and closed the door to a Labour/SNP pact.

Now they are just another uk Minority party of 56 seats as compared to Labour 326+ Majority.

Now we'll get an EU referendum, and no matter what the SNP spout, the Percentage of Scots wanting out of the EU are not so different to that of the rest of the UK, old Sturgy knows that, she also knows that even though she has almost all the Scottish Seats she does not have a Majority backing Independence...so she can make all the noise she wants but it'll all come to nowt.
