There'll be hell on in Scotland when IDS stops child tax credits and working tax credits. Call me Dave has been after getting rid of it for the last 5 years, it was only Clegg who stopped him from doing so.

I'd imagine that will be equally unpopular in large parts of England

Well done Grandad for heeding my advice pity about the Vermin bit but never mind, the trade and its workers now have a councillor well capable of influencing the council on ALL relevant issues that are of concern to the trade :D

some of the questions youve already been asked on this thread so clearly illustrate the political ignorance of so much of the industry #-o
anyway lets put it in simple terms for the simpletons

given you have an interest in an issue you cannot at a full council meeting vote or speak on that item, however the Political group

ie Conservative in this case will meet formally before the full council meeting to discuss all Agendered items. many councillors will have declared interests on various items. therefore Grandad speaks on items his fellow councillor has an interest in and votes regarding the advice his fellow councillor has presented ......naturally when Grandads items come up his mate presents Grandads views and supports them ...........................SIMPLE =D> =D> =D> =D>

PLEASE KEEP US UP TO SPEED ON YOUR PROGRESS GRAMPS AND WELL DONE :

Thank you TT. I have my first Conservative group meeting as an elected member tonight. I understand that there are meetings like this on a monthly basis with specific meetings on a weekly basis where, as you say, I can discuss with the rest of the group, any matters that affect the trade. Also, as there are 10 taxi drivers within my ward I can take up "case work" on their behalf. Interesting times ahead.

Interesting times indeed for you and very time consuming, take advice on where to hold your surgerys violence at these events is always a possibility unfortunately #-o keep your home phone number secret calls at 4 am otherwise  Pick experienced councillors brains on their surgery techniques..................you should receive plenty of advice from other councillors i hope .......you could well set an examplke to rest of the industry ............ie influence the decision making ................you cann of course take up case work for Taxi driver given their ward councillor ok's it ............and they will be well pleased to hand it on i reckon

any way b lucky and well done :D

You are going to have to be careful that you do not get sucked in - and your business suffers.

Most of the meetings are in the early evening when I am not working. if I have to do Council stuff in the day time it will just mean less time on here.

wont you have to declare a vested interest before being in any licensing committee meeting?

Don't you follow the whole thread? I have already explained what i can and can't do where taxi licensing is concerned. Anyway it is pecuniary interests.
