I charge Normal rate regardless of Bank Holidays, not through desperation for work but through a sense of fairness to all my clients who use my servies throughout the rest of the year..now if they wish to drop in a gratuity by way of thanks on the day then that's fine.
This is where our thinking differs. There are 365 days in the year and there are, in England 8 public holidays and if you count Easter Sunday, which is a premium rate day here, that makes 9 days throughout the year when the enhanced rate applies. I think it is fair to charge the enhanced rate on these occasion. If a driver chooses to work for less then that is their choice but I will never tell a driver to work for less that the prescribed rate.

The passengers should be grateful a driver decides to give up his holiday and provide a service, and every driver who does work should ask every punter what they get if they work a B/H.....many get trebble time plus a day off
On both of the above I think you are wrong. Just because a kings ransom can be charged in Dubai for a taxi fare does not mean to say the same applies in say India.
In other words you can only charge what your area affordability allows, as such it is not a given just because it is a bank hol, what it should be & what it is - is two different things. By forcing the issue/point, it can in reality drive business away from those who can only just afford to use them.
People as such are very much creatures of habit, and if you break that habit - then you risk losing that business for ever and a day, not really a good idea as you/I need to keep them interested for future gain, on that basis a little bit of business sense needs to be applied. Think about it, just because a Tesco worker gets double time and a day in lieu.....it does not mean to say that the girl/guy working in a corner shop gets the same - it is all about affordability.......not what it should be.
