Your all crooks.

Nottm city centre to home usually around 17 quid, 28 quid sunday night around 8pm.

And he had the gall to ask me to pay 20 quid upfront.

Why the added premium for sunday evening i dont know, i tried asking but he didnt have 3 words of english.

Almost enough to make one resort to public transport.

so ask for a receipt (assuming it was a Taxi not PH) and take driver badge and car plate details

then contact licensing

According to another topic, you are trying to get your drivers badge. So you should know the process if you think you are being overcharged. You should also know the difference between a hackney and a private hire and that if it was a private hire you should have asked for the price before the journey. Now it is a bit much saying that all drivers are crooks but what is certain is that a customer who should know to ask for a price before the journey and doesn't means that they are a muppet.

Saying you are all crooks was tongue in cheek mate, i assumed (probably wrongly) that some might have a sense of humour on here.

If you know Nottm at all which i assume you must as your just over the border you would know what type of taxi i was reffering to, ie a city centre taxi from the rank in slab square which uses the meter, and on previous nights out had never been over 18 quid, even in the small hours.

I had a date with me and wasnt about to start an arguement over a cab fare, i didnt want to come across as a cheap c--t. :D

You assume far to much. From your post it is not at all clear if you were in a hackney or private hire.
By challenging the fare you would not come across as being cheap but more like someone who is not to be messed with.

Maybe i was, a cab in Nottm city centre usually means(to locals) one thing, a hack driven by an asian who can barely speak English and if asked to drive more than 2 miles will want the fare upfront.

Trotsky, go burn yer bra!

I got a cab back home off a rank once. As soon as we pulled away the meter read £4.00 (should be £2.40), but I kept quiet. By the time I got home it read £18 for what is normally a £9 fare.

As soon as he saw the cab parked up outside my house it was 'just call it a tenner mate' - nah mate, it's normally £9 but because you tried me over you're getting f'all - any problem with that and you can take it up with licensing or get the police out. Best thing is we drive for the same firm #-o ! And he knows if I reported him to the office he'd be kicked off the fleet.

You could hear him cursing when we arrived and he saw I drove a cab on the same company as well
