I've reported drivers ripping off punters from the train station by going the long way or saying it's a fixed fare (double the metered rate) to certain hotels and drivers refusing to go to a neighbouring borough for less than £30 (metered rate £15) - all of which is common knowledge and the majority of hacks do, I learn about it when I take them back and they say 'thats half what it cost to get here' or 'the taxi that took me said it was a fixed fare of a tenner'.
I along with many others have reported over ranking, forming illegal ranks, touting etc. and the response we get each time is 'the council carries out regular checks to prevent this sort of activity', well they don't because it's been going on for years.
I've been on the other side of the fence and been called to licensing about alleged overcharging, only to be told 'it's their word against yours, we cant prove anything but we have to follow a procedure'.
