'Farcical' ban on taxi drivers in Rhyl wearing shorts is to be reconsidered

The ban was brought into place in May this year to give drivers a 'more professional' look

The ban on taxi drivers in Rhyl wearing shorts is to be reconsidered

A “farcical” ban on taxi drivers wearing shorts is being reconsidered.

The ban on drivers in Rhyl came into force on May 1 because they wanted the area’s 400 licensed taxi drivers to have a “more professional image”.

But more than 500 people signed a petition in protest and Denbighshire council’s licensing committee agreed to look the issue again.

Rhyl taxi driver Colin Howell described the ban as a “joke” and a “farce”.

He told BBC Wales: “It’s far too hot in a taxi. To wear shorts cools us down and stops fatigue.

“The council should stop having silly meetings about taxi drivers wearing shorts and get Rhyl back to being the town it once was.

“It’s a joke to be honest. It’s just a farce.”

The authority’s public protection manager Emlyn Jones said six drivers had attended a consultation workshop prior to the policy being introduced and all had been in favour of the ban.

I bet they were all either OAPs or bosses.

OAP's are cool round here with drivers wearing shorts.
