Taxi Driver Online

I have just recently got another hackney on the road and I have got a driver in it . I can be very busy at times and the phone doesn't stop ringing. My question is can taxis still use CB radio's as its a pain to keep phoning to see where he is and if his free to cover a job. Been looking at taxi radio's but have been told the license can be very expensive

Not unless you want everyone on cb to know where your sending your cab lol ( i suppose you could do it though) don't need a licence for CB anymore.. But a cb only sticks out 4 Watts (legally) which isn't much for a mag mount on top of a car. I believe taxi radio's stick out 25 watts

It's just that I was told CB's are not for business use. And that you shouldn't be giving Peoples personal details like names numbers over the air. But I do remember 20 years ago all the cab firms around here had CB's. If I remember they only have about 5mile radius. May have to shop around for proper taxi radios

I would advise against using cbs, as has been mentioned you shouldnt be broadcasting peoples detais.

Possibly a breach of data protection rules.

I was advised against CB radios a few years ago when my son and I had them in our cars. Apart from anything else the reception was crap.

Got smart phones - several apps available that simulate radios.....

The range is limited.......

We installed trackers in the cars and just used mobile phones in the end. Most mobile phones have a tracking facility these days. Since then we have grown in size and we now have Datamaster.

A 2 way licence is only £25 for up to 4 radios all have to be set by Ofcom

The licence regulations for the UK 27mhz FM CB radio does not permit business use, plus it only has a range of a few miles....on a good day

The traditional base radios for taxi's needed a DOT licence after the installation had been checked for unwanted RF transmissions, and the mast needed a planning permission

Frankly phones are far easier nowadays with a hands free kit and/or send messages

Never need planning permission for mine it was a 3 foot pole attached just below the guttering
