Ms Thompson, now 60, served as chief executive at Hackney Borough Council in East London from January 2005 to May 2007, before retiring at 52. She left the £164,839-a-year job with a £330,000 payoff.
In March 2010, she became chief executive of the General Social Care Council on a £150,000 salary but the quango was shut down and she got a £17,000 payoff in October 2012.
Now, she has retired as chief executive of Brighton & Hove Council – salary £150,000 – saying its new ruling Labour party want a fresh chief executive. Council chiefs agreed she could leave with ‘£269,000 which includes approval for early retirement’. Ms Thompson declined to comment.

Nothing to do with her abilities, just that the New Labour Leader mush didn't like her.

Unions have been very quiet on this. :-$

I think it's generally agreed she was viewed as being close to the previous Green leadership, they are no more thank f***, so clearly the new Labour people want someone new at the top.

And it's the good people of B&H that are paying for it.
