There's no easy way Folkestone-Dover unless you know the country roads. Which I do.

it's not that bad, mate... I know that all sytuation is changing all the time... I'm in Germany now, had a ferry from Dover to Dunkirk at 4 a.m. from M20 I switched via A249 to M2 then straight to Dover without any disruptions. ferry delayed about 50 mins. but we sailed bloody fast (less than 2 hrs.). it's all about lorries, all of them have to queue on M20 and even if they driving on M2 they're returned on the last roundabout before the port to the queue to be given a stack ticket... there are signs on M20 informing about op. stack and sending all tourist traffic via A249/M2...

It's about time the tunnel was filled in. People have been saying for years that it'll be the downfall of the UK.

There are 1000's of trucks with drivers stuck in Operation stack, all the drivers need paying, the trucks loads wont be accepted if past a sell by date (if perishable), the haulage companies are losing thousands of pounds per week in revenue, the goods on the trucks (apart from foods) could be holding up production of items from cars to planes across Europe, UK exporters wont get paid for the goods on the trucks till delivered and signed for, goods not delivered and signed for TODAY wont get invoiced till September now (on 30 days nett), I dont doubt some companies will go to the wall over late deliveries and loss of cash flow

Well done France...

Radio Kent reported this morning that some shops are running short of essential items that are waiting transit from Calais; stack is nearly as bad over there.

Queueing time is 18 hours this evening for lorries, and that's before they reach the tunnel or ferry check-in. The government has had to amend the drivers hours regs to 11 hours daily drive time too.

They said on the radio that they would waive the drivers driving hours if they were involved in operation stack.

Can we have our EU referendum right now please David, before you fudge things up and cover over the issue with sticking plaster cures and while all the
perceived "benefits" of EU membership are still raw in peoples memories..

Now that is an interesting theory. We have an in/out referendum and that will stop people trying to illegally enter the UK.

Other crossing routes are available for ferries. Why don't some of the ferries use sal the Dunkirk or Boulogne routes to help clear the backlog?
