You couldnt make it up...

At a small local train station there is a 4 car rank, not inline, 4 abreast, backed up to a fence (see picture)

all the public pass this rank along 1 path, the taxis have decided that (looking at the rank) that the nearest to the punters is the last in the rank/queue, so from the path end its 4-3-2-1

In the image the bays are coloured, in fact they arent and they arent numbered.

When "1" pulls away, all the remaining cars shunt forward then reverse into the next bay...


any cars over 4 (if the rank is full) sit up the approach in view and shoot down to take bay 4....then 3.....then 2.....then 1...

Lewes station use to be just like that and it's a reasonably busy station. Nightmare for punters.

if it was "1" nearest the punters it would be better, with "4" nearest they get sent across the front of 3 cars

We have a couple of ranks like that. Believe it or not, the drivers seem to be quite honest when using them and just send the punter to the correct car. It saves a lot of shunting backwards and forwards!

Sounds a fair way of dealing with it. It used to be called "play the white man" but I don't suppose we can use that term these days, Honest injun.
