Edinburgh's co-ops are well established, we are ahead of the game, cloud companies will blow over and away in Edinburgh, again customer service and relations will win the day.

As far as taking over airport ranks etc, any other form of taking a booking or hire by the likes of Uber or Gett will in my opinion compromise their status as cloud companies, in Edinburgh they will struggle to become significant, maybe elsewhere but not here, the App market isn't big enough, our council are promoting a cleaner greener city centre, they have a tram to pay for, they have the power to restrict ph.

Competition is good though, as long as they abide by our regulations including pricing, I say bring it on.

You have price fixing? Other than that I think you're deluded, but, I hope I'm wrong

Not deluded Toots! Optimistic knowing the strength of our trade, anyone who knows the trade in Edinburgh knows the two co-ops pretty much cover our City well, nearly 900 co-op members, around 2000 drivers covering our city 24/7, a very well established app provided by Cordic, a decent marketing budget, each co-op, its members and drivers have a real willingness to cover the work and provide a great service, all I'm saying is Edinburgh will be a tough nut to crack, our pricing is set by our LA so it's not price fixing, uber's model is already under fire from ripped off punters, Edinburgh's population is around 500k, knowing our customers they won't stick with that kind of model, one that requires the uploading of their bank details, again Edinburgh will be tough to crack, knowing Edinburgh Airport, that will also be a tough nut to crack, the airport want departing customers picked up as quick as possible, uber can't service our Airport like we do.

One big tough nut to crack in my opinion

be a Fechin Nightmare up there if Uber get a foothold, what little spare pick up space will be choked with Uber cars whislt airport Taxis will stagnate where they sit, and that will create a future problem for Edinburgh Airport, a major switch from Airport Hacks and all their Extra space to PH's Uber and other Prebooked fighting over their smaller designated P/U area.

Not sure itll' work that way though..UBER drivers wont want to sit waiting for delayed flights etc, and the air passenger wont want to wait for an UBER driver when theirs a Hack already sitting waiting in line...Im guessing it'll tick over pretty much the same as always.

Uber London have got their airport pick up arrangements in London's airports (to some extent) sorted out.

When drivers enter a pre-defined (by Uber) boundary of the airport, when empty (they could drive in the boundary empty, or drop someone off at the airport), they enter a virtual queue or rank.

They wait in that boundary until they're first in the queue, and a job request by a passenger comes through. Usually the boundary is big enough to include supermarkets, petrol stations etc., surrounding the airport where drivers can wait.

The driver then enters the short stay car park, parks up, and meets the passenger inside. They both got each others phone numbers to make contact if necessary, and the passenger will also have the driver's photo on their phone (as well as the car make, and reg no. - though the car is parked up anyway).

Driver takes passenger/s and their luggage to their car, and away they go. Uber adds the car parking charge to the customer's fare.

Will this work in Edinburgh, also?

The preference of a passenger taking a Hackney already waiting instead could depend on: acceptance of credit cards, they don't broom the job (Uber drivers don't know the destination of the passenger until they start the trip with the passenger on board), and the price. Uber has fixed rates to and from London postcodes for Gatwick and Heathrow.

It might in part..but if they start Feching about by picking up at the drop they'll get noticed and warned. and if they start clogging up the Pick up parking they'll get noticed as well, If they shift the work off of the Airports Hacks to UBER then it'll block up the Airports already clogged Transport and parking arteries.

It's finely balanced up there as it. if there is a seismic change in Pickup parking then It will have a profound affect on the airports ability to cope, It's been set up to accomodate its Airport Franchise cabs and PH....any change will really piss the aie airport off.

It won't create any more work, but it'll affect the logistics of the work already available at EDI

Lovely speech Reggie and if Edinburgh was one big co-op company I would agree it would be a tough nut to crack but I am afraid you are not.
450 members and a possible 700 freelance drivers who are not members.
As for the airport, it is just another contract, the city of Edinburgh is slowly getting taken over by the app users you decide which one Reggie
