5 Years is a long time to commit for an uncertain newbie, They'd e better off scrimping and saving until they can buy something suitable at around £4000/£5000.

That Way they lose less if it goes belly up, they also lose less in Vehicle depreciation costs and that money saved could be put towards a newer vehicle a couple of years hence. Once established then think about a longer term HP (HP being a better option than a Loan as you still have the right to Walk away).

Anyway..why Buy new when you can buy something 2 years old with less than 20,000 miles on the clock for abour £5000 less than new..Ive had new cars and laterly asked myself why? I now buy 2 yr olds with good service history as after all im just going to subject them to 40,000+ miles a year which makes many warrantys redundant within a year and a half and it makes the original 20,000 miles negligible in the grand scale of things.

The only way you're going to get a decent credit rating is by starting off with the "high interest HP companies," They'll put a green light on your credit file every time you make a monthly payment meaning in lets say 4-5 years your credit file won't be like a hot potato to some lenders.

First thing to do is CHECK your credit rating (checkmyfile.com or Noddle) before assuming the worst

its not impossible to buy a car on a credit card and pay the minimum per month and add to that to suit your takings

My credit rating was akin the Greece's at one time, i got a 15 plate car on low rate finance in March/April

Unless I am missing something in your post why would you be paying £125 ins and £125 Hire ? Usually in our neck of the woods the price is all in i.e an E7 would be in the region of £285/290, that would include ins/hire/office rent Or just hire including ins £160/£180!

What part of the country are you from?....Yes it does make a difference!

Newcastle , it's all separate the firm I was working for offered insurance but even if you had that it was separate.
The car hire would be paid with you office rent weekly , all firms up here seem to do the same

phone blueline, im sure you can buy a car off them & just add it to the rent ???

Hi i'm considering going back on the taxis , I left a while back as my expenses were just far too much
125 insurance
120 office rent
100 diesel
125 car hire
(All weekly)

Now I've had a look and I can get insurance for £70 a week now being a bit older, so that in itself is a big difference.
I've been looking at getting a car on finance but have bad credit and have been offered around 30% apr form a couple
Of these guaranteed finance places and am wondering if it's worth it.

For example I can get a focus estate £3700 (57 reg 50k miles) if I paid the £700 deposit and paid off over 24 months I'm looking at just under £170 a month the total interest over the 2 years is £1025.

I'm wondering it this is worth it, £170 a month to buy vs £500 a month to rent. Obviously I will have to pay £300 for the car to be plated and cover repairs etc but I'm thinking at 50k miles it may not need too much work over the 2 years. The cars I was hiring (fords also) had 250k + miles on and while the repairs were free I was always off the road in the garage waiting for them to be done.

Any advice would be appreciated , thanks

The only way you make money Taxiing is by keeping your car on the road..and that costs money....

So do you think it is worth it in the long run ?

I think you should go back to college ..work hard and get some qualifications....there are two types of taxi drivers...the wolves (friendly ones).the loners that do not like to be told what to do..know how to make money (not a lot but enough ) and this is their world they are king..............and then there are the sheep..the ones that let themselves be controlled by the company...

Theres a 3rd group, the inner circle, not wolves nor sheep, company men who the company look after, the FTF brigade (Fed To F***) sometimes known as base budgies, drop a job and run back to make the base op tea, take them biccies, even have sex with them, just to get the best jobs, the ones who get rung when not working to do a good job while the Wolves and Sheep are logged on and sitting waiting for a job...

and the 4th group of drivers.....partners of base ops who seem to get good jobs somehow, like a £250 each way job/return over 2 saturdays, same driver...£500 total.....

Wow that's some expenses.
Am on my first years insurance and only pay £65 per week . One answer insurance.
And they said it will go down 40% with 1 years NCD .
Car payment £35 per week ( put a big deposit down ) 13 plate insignia estate SE 16k miles
£95 radio/PDA settle and £100-£120 diesel.
Total £300-£320 .
Hopefully on my 2nd year I ll get it down to £280 weekly outlay .
