no matter

you still have register her as your employee, and raise tax and stamp details, pay her and leave a paper trail HMRC can see and follow

and pay EMPLOYER nat ins, holiday pay, etc, etc

Or 5 000

doesnt matter how much.....

Still requires the paper trail. We pay ourselves just below the national insurance threshold so that we don't pay income tax or national insurance. We still have to produce proper payslips and sent the information to HMRC every month. Obviously the other employees who earn over the thresholds are required to pay their tax and national insurance through paye and because the government allow us to claim back the first £2,000 of employers national insurance we don't have to pay that either. The company pay corporation tax on profits so if the directors pay themselves a dividend that is also tax free because the tax has already been paid in corporation tax.

what worries me is that this image of "employing the wife" is out there, one reason why i say we dont really want the HMRC vultures swooping

GD, my accountant DID have a scheme whereby a maximum of £3000 PA could be paid to a wife with NO HMRC considerations, he had been through a tribunal with it and won, but while he used it in my year 2 accounts he never revealed details, but it did work...however the money did have to be proven to have changed hands, and it didnt require the wife to be S/E, but thats only a tax saving of £600 a year

On 30,000 miles a year? i think not

I purchased my car on personal finance, i paid the vat upfront as deposit and reclaimed that

I shall reclaim the interest on the HP in my accounts

I shall write down the cars £14500 over the 4 years allowed by HMRC (40% year 1, then 3 x 20%)

Then they need reporting.

Money laundering and VAT fraud is a crime nowadays.
