We have a County Council school contract for an 8 passenger vehicle taking students from a village about 6 miles from town to 2 schools in the town. Originally the transport was full bu 2 students do no want the transport so we have 2 spare seats in the vehicle.
Now he is the problem. One student on the transport has a brother who is not on the transport because the policy is that County will only provide transport to the nearest school even though the other brother who is on the transport goes to the same school. The policy changed last year. So we have a vehicle with spare seats but this student has to catch the service bus to school which does not get to town until well after school has started and does not get home until nearly 17.00.
Go figure!
Surely you can take him.
Or charge him 1p a run.
Only people listed on the contract can be carried. Any other persons would be a breach of contract. We actually had a situation a couple of years ago when a couple of students were late out from school and the taxi had gone. We had another vehicle picking up a few minutes later with spare seats so we took these students home in that vehicle. Somewhere along the line it got reported to County hall and we got told that we shouldn't have taken them in the other transport. if they missed their own car then it was up to them to find their own way home. Similarly if a student needs to go to a different address than the one on the contract, we can't do that without tyhe permission of County Hall. for instance if the student has a doctors appointment and the normal journey goes past the surgery, we can't drop the student off in case something happens to them.
