Taxi Driver Online

picked up a bloke today, conversation went like this :
me -"where you off to ?"
him -"im going to, my friends house then on to the church, its cheap meals today for pensioners today & can you close your window please ( bearing in mind it was a hot & sunny day )
me - ok ( thought immediately this is gonna be a difficult one )
so gets to his mates house then he says
"right, im going in & will be about 5/10 mins to see if he wants to go to the church, can you pause your meter please "
me- "no mate, i do this for a living not a pastime"
him , "well if you don't pause it i will just pay whats on up to now & you will lose the carry on fare as i will just call another taxi "
me - "ok mate" ( then hit the meter once) he says "thought you might", then i hit the meter again & just say , "ok mate £5.50 please "
he then started moaning and calling me all sorts , i just told him he would never get in my car again, asked him his name ( i already knew it ) then wrote it down if front of the old t***

what i want to know is why do people do this chit to taxi drivers ? they wouldn't ever do it to anyone else, the fare is lets say £7.50, then you get the " i only have £7.30 ?" ( i know its coppers but its the principle for me ) what would happen in a shop if they bought a chicken for £7.50 & only had £7.30? , put it back then, i honestly cant comprehend why people think taxi drivers do it as a hobby , i blame the drivers tbh, always chasing the cash no matter what the principles are

Our base has a A4 sheet of set fares, almost all the cars are hack with a meter, it doesnt matter what the meter shows they only want to pay the set fare that was set......in 2010!

So I pick up a guy and it meters £12.50, he gives me a tenner and says just give me a quid mate (its £8.50 on the sheet)

round our way people won't book even the shortest of journeys unless you guarantee the exact fare over the phone first 10 to 15 years ago for local jobs the answer was always on the meter now 90 percent of all jobs have to be pre quoted

and the reason is all the rogues out there overcharging and taking people the wrong way so now people won't even trust reputable firms

you can't guarantee anything over the phone, telephonist sitting in the office and taking bookings isn't able to take responsibility he/she can estimate price only and that's not guarantee. nobody sitting somwhere indoors is able to know what is trafic like, roadworks, closures, events, RTAs etc. estimate! cos I didn't pay £££ for a meter to keep it as a flashing decoration...

Round our way there is 1 hackney carriage for every 200 population the customers can demand anything !

Problem is too many of the dumb gits don't understand the difference between an estimate and a quotation and some of the ones that do pretend they don't when it suits them.

It doesn't help if the base ops don't have a clue sometimes and just pick a figure out of the air.

WTf occurs because 90% of cab drivers discount and grovel show no professionalism or determination subsequently 100% of the public regard the Drivers both Hack and PH as GUTLESS SNIVELING IDIOTS naturally that analysis leads to the type of behaviour described here.

Of course not all Drivers are GUTLESS SNIVELLING IDIOTS just the majority of them my sympathy is with the Drivers with guts and determination stick to yer guns dont discount

got a PDA job come thru town to Ashby.....£25 quoted

21 miles IF i take country roads.....which i did


Trouble is the also quote £45 from town to EMA which is 33 miles

so the extra 11 miles was would be worth £20...

Portsmouth Ferry Terminal - ~80 miles - set fare (account) £153,50!
Gatwick Airport - ~150 miles - set fare £150
Heathrow - ~130 miles - set fare £130 (£144,40 if on account)
