There is a very simple answer to that question. The trade! Why are drivers in areas where this is happening not challenging the Council. Get the breakdown of the costs and scrutinise them. Take them to the district auditor, the local government Ombudsman and the press.

but the very simple answer is that he's right - and the number of drivers that will bother complaining is negligible - and before you start preaching from that pulpit of yours my friend - drivers haven't got the time of energy to do what you have (thanks to the advice you were given via tdo)

the simple answer is for the government to issue advice to councils.

you are in a position to do this - so please do it.

With respect, I had to make the time and put in the effort and without the help and encouragement of people like yourself, Sussex, Mancityfan, Mr T and yes, TrotskysTwin, I doubt that I would have managed what i have. mind you there is still some way to go.

I don't dispute that - and its good of you to acknowledge the advice you were offered, and moreover, took upon yourself to do the groundbreaking hard work it took - but I am sure you will accept, such effort takes time, time that others may not have?

Taxi driver involved in Blueline and Boro Cars 'dispute' had suspension lifted after police decided not to press charges

Claims about the altercation were aired in the dangerous driving trial of Blueline Taxis shareholder Ansear Akbar last week

A taxi driver involved in a “bitter dispute” between two rival firms had a council suspension lifted after police decided not to press charges.

Claims about the altercation, which took place in August last year between drivers from Blueline Taxis and Boro Cars in Pallister Park, were aired in the dangerous driving trial of Blueline shareholder Ansear Akbar last week.

Mr Akbar, 36, was cleared of dangerous driving, after claiming that Boro Cars boss Mohammed Bashir, his sons and nephew and another Boro Cars driver had smashed up his Range Rover with baseball bats and assaulted his passengers.

He also insisted during the trial that Cleveland Police were “in the pocket” of Mr Bashir and didn’t trust them to investigate the alleged assault - claims which the force and Boro Cars strongly deny.

Now Middlesbrough Council has confirmed that a taxi driver registered with the authority saw their licence suspended - but could not confirm which company the driver worked for.

The authority said it will now assess evidence from last week’s trial before deciding on whether to investigate further.

A spokesman for Middlesbrough Council said: “The licence of a Middlesbrough taxi driver was suspended in August last year after the authority was notified that Cleveland Police were investigating a suspected incident of violence.

“When that investigation was brought to an end without charges being brought, the suspension of the licence was lifted.

“The council’s licensing department is attempting to obtain a transcript of the recent related trial heard at Teesside Crown Court and will assess the evidence and testimonies given in order to see if there are any matters requiring consideration by the licensing committee.”

Mr Akbar had claimed in his trial that he had been targeted by Mr Bashir and Boro Cars after Blueline Taxis began to bid for the same contracts.

He said that CCTV of another alleged attack by the same “troops” - on Snowdon Road in Middlesbrough in August 2012 - had been lost by Cleveland Police, who Mr Akbar had claimed would “side with Boro Cars”.

But in a statement, Detective Inspector Matt Murphy-King, of Cleveland Police, said that “a full, thorough and transparent investigation” was carried out into the latest incident - and said that CCTV of the alleged 2012 had never been lost.

And responding to the claims in the trial, a spokesman for Boro Cars said: “We do not recognise the hyperbolic characterisation of our business that was ventilated in court. Our business was not on trial and no charges have been brought against anyone from the company.”
