As a base with owner drivers is technically sub-contracting do they have to tell the customer who is doing the job?

Are the drivers also operators? If not how will they be able to give the customer the operators license number?

Good evening, I am writing with regards to the letter outlining changes to combined hackney and private hire drivers conditions

Additional operator conditions

Quote:
"If an operator sub-contracts a booking the operator shall verbally inform the customer prior tp the vehicle arrival at the pickup site the details of the sub-contractor that will be conducting the journey. Details shall include operators licence name and licensing authority
"

Although the letter doesnt state it, I assume this is for private hire operators only (hackney carriages have no operators licence) though im not sure where it leaves a local base (with hackney carriage and private hire owners working out of it) when it passes a job to an owner driver.... as with myself when i had a private hire vehicle and worked via Premier taxi's....

yours

It's not workable, the job might not be dispatched until 20 mins before pick up,what if the customer has no phone,or does not want to give his number, what if the sub-contractor is the same firm?

Thank you for your email.

The additional Operator Condition applies to Private Hire Operators only. If the Private Hire Operator takes a booking and passes that booking to another company and/or licence holder that is not on their operators licence and/or vehicle rota (in the case of a Hackney Carriage) they must inform the hirer of the sub-contractors operating name and licensing authority. For example, if you are a Hackney Carriage working for Premier Cars it is not classed as sub-contracting the work. If you own your business e.g. AAA Cars and Premier Cars pass work to you, they must inform the hirer that they are sub-contracting the work to you.

Ones a Hackney and the other is an operator.
