Might be the right time for the Newcastle black cab trade to look into forming a co-operative, I'm not sure if you said there is a total 300 black cabs in Newcastle or if there is more but a co-op of 300+ Would become significant, Cordic could provide the tech and an App that is just as good as Ubers and Gett, check it out http://www.cordic.com/smartbooker.html

Anyway good luck with your website =D>

changing the mindset of the luddites who wont rent a radio anyway is the problem there

I think you're right about the mobile phone being the straw that broke the camels back for black cabs. I've no argument with the private hire trade or drivers giving numbers out. My gripe is with customers being totally ripped off which gives the whole trade a bad name. Uber can't honestly put their hand on their heart and say they are offering an excellent or better service for their customers than taxi companies can offer. Charging astronomical fares is giving punters 2 fingers. The trade is obviously having a huge change but long term the customer will suffer.

not just black cabs, any hackney please......lol

there are 2 main bases here, both with about 30 cars MAX (not all out same time) there are also about 30 "Indys" who could take the place over - IF they worked as 1 and got themselves organised

Cheers for last couple of comments.

I've been in touch with the owner of one of the biggest private hire taxi companies in Newcastle and have a meeting with him today to see how we can deal with them together. I'm hoping for maybe small 10 inch adverts on the outside of the cars and maybe their business cards could have the website on too ??
The more potential Uber customers who know the negativity about this company the better.
Last video I uploaded is an American woman who was charged over $1,000 for an Uber ride. Looks like her driver possibly had her card details but not certain.

The site has had about 1100 hits in 2 weeks so it's not too bad - I've added to google but think there are problems with some html.
If anyone knows html or knows where the errors are I'd appreciate it.
(just a note that guys from a Polish taxi forum also must read this forum as I've had hits from there too  )

Cheers
Chris

Check with your LA before you put any adverts on cars to make sure that they are within their guidelines.

Cheers Grandad - yeah, I think the council may not be too happy with the web address but you never know. The information on the site is not libelous. I've just looked this morning at the student areas in Newcastle. Uber have had 2.8 x the fare for an extremely long time. They are taking advantage. But unfortunately it seems people are willing to pay extra for the gimmick.

yes, mate, some of them read 8) they've huge problem over there with uber which is approved as a transport provider (unless genuine licenced taxi is in use which is not very often, mostly private cars) and private hire which is illegal and there's no such a licence, hackneys only...

There are around 150 Hackney taxis in Newcastle using or awaiting approval to use cabapp.
And numbers rising as it launches to the public.
Flat fee of 50p per job, free to driver for card payments, 3.9% to passenger. Driver paid next banking day.
Rewards built in for use and promotion, with drivers encouraged to buy in.

It s made for the trade, by the trade to work for the trade, zoned to prevent cross border working, lots of features and improving all the time.
Unlike cordic all you need is your own smartphone with chipnpin available at a one off payment as an option.

Nothing to lose for any taxi driver, just sign up and use the 5 free jobs then bin it if you don't like and if your using Gitt, already or want to compare download them both.

Thousands of drivers are in on it already, don't be left behind.

I've just added a page to the website - just to inform users what data Uber actually "steal" from your phone. I understand you have agreed to the terms when you download but why do they need to use your camera when THEY want to?

If you are familiar with how the Android API works. The Map or simply the Camera helps in getting a fine grained GPS location for apps that use Map and Geolocation.
