The LPHCA is the latest to enter the ring with Uber.

They've hired Clifford Chance who don't tend to muck around. They're already calling on TFL to suspend their operators license.

Wonder if the many paid Uber Journalists and Bloggers (my favourite type...clueless) will be attacking Addison Lee and other PH firms as luddites and anti-competition?

Those arguments are more than a tad weak.

The insurance one is laughable. 90% of the U.K. taxi/ph trade insure in the same way as Uber do.

the more and more Uber are being challenged the more they will be tied up fighting and not concentrating on grabbing market share off the existing trade

Fact is if Uber are claiming their technology mimicks a street hail then they are under current regulation operating illegally, they should have their operators licence suspended.

Well that might the case if they didn't have a whole department dedicated to each aspect of their business

If they are not claiming so, then why isn't everyone else pointing to the fact. Even tfl are belatedly addressing this.

Apps connecting a passenger directly to a driver are there and then street hails. And should be used/provided within the current legislation.

The benefit to the trade and enforcement of apps and the use of Gps few seem to have grasped is that the hail location and driver location and the drivers licences area can all be identified.
All sides of the trade should embrace this technology and use it for the benefit of whom we serve.
Cheaper, safer, regulated journeys.

apps should be submitted for approval and be licensed.

I bet he's a one who's worried the punter won't pay the difference when the fares go up. If they don't like it tell them to walk it.

10s of 1000s of jobs every day go out via phone based operators that never come into contact with a person at the operator's base.

Are you saying those jobs are illegal?
