So now you are saying the taxi trade is a sound investment?

It depends what you mean, but I wouldn't call a taxi plate a good investment, unless you're a gambler.

But ignoring the twisted investment of taxi plates, I can't see why the trade shouldn't be a good investment, at least for those with a bit of business acumen and/or prepared to work.

"Excess profits" and taxi trade, never seen those put together before, how many multi millionaire taxi drivers are there?

A few millionaire plate holders maybe, but I doubt if there are many millionaires driving taxis.

But who said anything about millionaires? The term is used by the independent consultants to describe the plate premium.

Do they hand out plates willy nilly, no the have quantity control by "the knowledge"

What a good idea!

But I should remind you that you referred to what free plates would attract, plates are free in London, aren't they?

Free plates will attract freeloaders, people lacking any real commitment to the job, put in the minimum and take out the maximum. They will undercut, bend the rules, minimum maintenance etc, etc.

Would anyone invest in the taxi trade after reading this forum ? Half the posters are jumping for joy because millions have been wiped off the value of hackney plates, half could not run a bath let alone a business and the other half dont know Sh*t about maths.

So you're implying that no one would invest after derestriction?

Then you've got nothing to worry about then

I email this to my acountant, who is a senior partner, you know (fully qualified), his reply was, Tell this dope to stick to driving taxis he's talking through his ar*e......mrT.. eusasmiles.zip

So that was his reply to one of the most eminent competition lawyers in the country, who I quoted?

If so, and that was the extent of his reply, then I suspect it's him that's talking through his arse.

What exactly did you ask him, and what was his reply?

If you want to give me his email address I'll put him in the picture, or alternatively he can email the site.

As for GOODWILL, it annoys me when Idiots BELITTLE the people who who work in this trade, goodwill is not something you can touch it is something you create by the sweat of your brow, there is more to taxing than fri and sat nights.

If you buy a shop and that shop had been in business for years and had a regular turnover then it is reasonable to expect to pay not only for the stock and premises but also for the goodwill, but if you buy a shop a shop that is closed and empty then there is no goodwill.

The bottom line, Mr T, is that proper goodwill just wouldn't disappear if the council delimited.

But it would, so it isn't :D

Mr T Good will . If you had a private hire firm, you had lots of companies that you did contract work for and when you sold your bussiness the probability was, that these companies would stay with the with the new owner . Then you pay extra for this .This call it goodwill . When you buy and sell a plate . there is just as much chance of a cutomer useing another Taxi ,or even a nother mode of transport . So as far as i can see there is no good will . What baffles me you have places with plate values of 50, 000 pounds ie Liverpool . next door you plate values of 13000 pounds ie Sefton They both seem to have very similar returns why would some one invest 50,000 When they would make the same investing 13000. STREETCAR.
