I'm sure traditional ph agree a price verbally, you don't need to use a calculator to say the charge is £1.50 per mile, you might need one to work out the price if the end mileage is say 3.4 miles but surely a lot of the pricing is done using SIMPLE arithmetic, Uber rely's totally on an electronic device to price a job.

C'mon Grandad

The mileage, I assume, will be taken from the car odometer, which of course will be an electronic gadget. The days of cable odometers are preety much long gone. So it doesn't matter how you work it out you will be using electronic means somewhere in the calculation.

Could TFL ban any price surging??

No, but bearing in mind they allow a higher night time rate for taxis it would be rather hypocritical.

The night time rate is a set increase, Uber's is not, we're dealing with a new way of charging more at times of high demand, we can't say no for sure, the question needs to be raised, is surging morally right :?:

I presume the primary quote would be pre journey, before a yard is driven, the mileage surely would come from a in office price list of local and over the border journey's, recorded mileage's surely outdate electronic devices

what is needed is for PH Operators to have to employ drivers - the self employment is fake - the driver has no say in what he charges and his movements are strictly monitored by the Operator

What say do taxis have over what they charge? Should the council employ them? Drivers work whenever they want or not want in your case  if they were to be employed they would have set hours and zero hour contracts, how would that be better for drivers? The circuits would just require drivers to have their own operator licence so you still wouldn't solve the problem of whether they are employed or self employed imo
