Anyone any idea of the rules regarding drivers having a stroke and taxi driving?
A driver here has had a stroke this week and he has been told that he can't drive for a month. Apparently he does not have to inform the DVLA unless he still has any problems after 1 month. He has been told by the Licensing department that he has to have a medical before he can continue to drive a taxi.
What are the procedures in other areas?

The DVLA allow a lot of people to drive that councils don't.

The council are covering their bums by ensuring he passes a medical before he gets back to hire and reward work.

I wish him well.

He has already recovered. It can't have been too serious on this occasion. He has to wait 4 weeks just to be certain. He should be OK to pass the medical.

Sounds like he's had what they call a micro stroke, a change in lifestyle and diet will sort him out. I can't see there being any problems with is medical.

Some drivers round here have had them and have been back on the road the next week. They don't notify the council, I know but the Council are aware of it but they choose to do nothing.
