Taxi Driver Online

Some of you may remember a post from a few months ago when I mentioned about one of our cars having it's tyres slashed..........TWICE! Since then we also had a window put through on another car. This week there have been some other attacks on taxis and associated vehicles in the town, thou not mine this time. One has had the back window put through and another car has had all 4 tyres slashed with what would appear to be a similar tool to the one used on our tyres. A driver who has just changed company to work with us has had his own car badly damaged as well with all the windows put through and various dents on the car.
Although there is no direct proof as to who is carrying out this damage, there is one factor that seems to be consistent. All the victims have upset one certain company in the town.

With so much of it going on, and the damage being caused, I cannot understand as to why a cam/cams have not been installed in cars parked away from the office. I would have thought that by now a pattern would have started to have taken place, i.e dot/circle on a map where these attacks take place (how far apart etc) (possibility of time span). It has to be (stating the obvious) a local person with a very deep hatred to keep on doing this. A local person is unlikely to be too far from home - start (with respect) joining up the dots/clues.Having done that and identified an area, leave one of your least valuable cars/cabs there with a cam. It has got to be worth it as it will go on and on. Smashing windows are going to make a noise! so where are the drivers parking their vehicles?



Only one way to test that one! Get a driver to work for that company for a few weeks! After a while get him to pack it in, citing that he is not happy, and that he is going to work for another company - install...wait and see.

Smashing car windows is very quiet if you know what tools to use, spring-loaded centre punch, bus emergency window hammer, any sharp pointed object.

yeah right he's going to drive his bus up from kent to melton to carry out criminal damage on vehicles and drivers he's never seen or met before wakey wakey John or are all these moaning minnies creating bad press giving you sleepless nights !

I think a carefully worded letter of complaint to the chief constable listing ALL the happenings signed by every taxi owner/driver affected and pointing out just how much this has cost from the sounds of it several thousand pounds. it must surely warrant being taken on by CID as a major crime

They give out crime numbers. Without any forensic evidence they wont do anything.

I speak from experience, when I ran a bus company in Mitcham in 2000, we had an "incident" one night when almost every window in every bus was broken; we had over 36 buses damaged, with only 3 fit for service. Then Paddy next door with the tipper trucks came in and said his cab windows had been done, then the JCB man next door to him. It was the most expensive crime in Mitcham that year and what did the Met Police do? Absolutely f all! £250k worth of damage and my fleet off the road for best part of a week. They didn't give a shot then, and I don't suppose they will now.

Apart from one, all the attacks have been outside drivers homes. The exception was the one that had the most damage last week. This was parked where very few people knew it was there because it was having some engine work done at the time. We all know who is responsible for the damage but there is no actual evidence.

I think that it is fair to say that most of us know who likes, or who does not like us, which then comes down to who is really vindictive enough to take that extra step. In many cases a simple (general) conversation to that person letting them know what has happened/have they seen anything...and then dropping into the conversation ( a whispered keep it to yourself ) we will catch this bleep, because will will be setting a cam trap....see what comes from that!
