Peterborough private hire driver ran down customer

A Peterborough private hire driver who ran down a customer has lost his appeal against the termination of his licence.

Danish Rasheed, (23), of St Pauls Road, Peterborough, appeared before Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 3 November to appeal against the city council’s decision not to renew his private hire driver’s licence.

The council’s refusal followed an incident caught on CCTV in the early hours of Thursday 17 September. After an alleged altercation with customers who had threatened him, the driver followed the group. Driving on the wrong side of the road, his car then mounted the pavement and knocked down a 19 year old male. The male sustained shoulder injuries as a result.

The court upheld the council’s decision and ruled that Rasheed was not a fit and proper person to hold a private hire driver’s licence. He was ordered to pay a contribution of £150 towards the council’s costs.

Donna Hall, public protection manager at Peterborough City Council, said: “We welcome the court’s decision as it confirms that the council made the right choice in terminating the licence.

“The welfare of the travelling public is of paramount importance to us. People have the right to feel safe when using a licensed taxi service and we will continue to take action in order to protect the public.”

Sad thing is this is not the first time a Peterborough driver has done something like this and he will probably get a badge here
