Thorpe Park: 'Frightening' group attack on taxi driver outside entrance

Police said a group of people "rocked" and "kicked" the vehicle before assaulting the victim at the site's entrance

A taxi driver was left with facial injuries after a “frightening” assault at Thorpe Park.

The incident happened as the driver approached the entrance to the Chertsey theme park at around 10.30pm on Wednesday (October 28).

Surrey Police said the taxi driver, a man in his 40s, was forced to stop his people carrier as the road was blocked by a group of people.

It is believed the taxi was then surrounded by a number of people and was being rocked. The group then tried to open the locked back doors to the taxi and kicked the vehicle.

The victim got out to check for damage and was then assaulted, which resulted in him suffering facial injuries.

He got back into his vehicle, a black Seat Alhambra, and drove to the taxi rank in Thorpe Park where he received help.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

The main suspect is described as a black man, around 5ft 6 tall, of a slim build and clean shaven.

A second man has been described as white, around 6ft 2, in his early 20s and of a stocky build, with a scruffy beard and scruffy hair. It is believed he was wearing a dark top and carrying a rucksack.

A third has been described as Asian, around 18 to 19 years old, and around 5ft 8 tall.

It is believed he was wearing a black puffa-style jacket.

Investigating officer Neil Marsden, said: "It was a very busy time with people leaving Thorpe Park after a night out, I would appeal to anyone who saw the incident and the circumstances surrounding it to contact officers with information.

"I would also ask anyone who has their suspicions around someone they know who they believe could be involved in this incident to share this information with us.

"This was an appalling and frightening attack on a man just going about his everyday business and we will do all we can to find those responsible for the assault and bring them to justice.”

If you have any information, please contact Surrey Police on 101 or by using the online reporting system and quote reference 45150098409, or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
