I expect to still have to be driving at 70 even though i've paid into pension plans all my life which are worth exactly what I've paid into them 0 growth in 25 years !!!!!

You must be with the wrong company. I stopped paying into mine in 1998 and the fund value has been growing very well since.

My mates dad retired a few years ago aged 65 and 2 weeks later dropped down dead.....so much for a pension pot!

I remember as a kid a friend of the family died of a heart attack on the day he retired !

That happened to a chap I used to work with at Aveling Barford in Grantham.

Of course, if you have a private pension, and it doesn't need to be very much, you will not be eligible for any state benefits other than the basic pension when you retire.

Try working tax credit, no age limit on that; council tax rebate, rent rebate, free opticians/dentist/bus travel/winter heating allowance. Otherwise no additional benefits?

Some of those are means tested and if you have a personal pension you most probably wont get them.

The thing about being retired is that you get bored.................you can only have so many holidays a year...........redecorate the house...buy a few cars....and make things.....
