had a classic today, little old lady who goes 8 miles out into the sticks to visit, meter said £13, she gave me a tenner and said it was £8.40..........it is - to the village we drove through 2 miles before her drop, she gave me the tenner

5pm the pda went off, i knew it was her return, i refused it, base txt me, I explained but they still wanted me to go, got her home, the meter said £12.65, she handed me a tenner and said........"keep the change".....

So what are you going to do if you get the same fare again?

I dont mind £10 for a £12 fare for a regular, and she travels both ways, BUT shes infirm, difficulty getting in the car, 2 sticks, lock the house up, give me your arm, etc, etc..... it gets wearing and needs sharing about

£3.60 T1 flag here but a fixed £4 fare around the town, some trips would hit a tenner with the extras allowed....20p per person over 2 people, 20p per bag over 2 bags (tesco shoppers, 4 pass and 10 bags ......)

That's correct but some look upon us as the lowest form of life on the planet.

Due to some drivers giving a poor service dressing scruffy, cars stinking of fags etc etc. reputations are earned or lost if we have a bad reputation then it has been "earned" for us by some drivers who think standards don't matter

Funny you should say that, i always start a shift with a clean car, after 10 hours as an office, canteen and rest room it can look a bit untidy but I still get told its very clean, i wonder what some others are like....

I had one the other day (not an old one), I picked her up off the rank and took her to here house. When she got out she just walked off, no thank you and left me with the bags. I just dropped them at the gate and drove off.

My technique for supermarket customers is to take payment before unloading if there tight enough to hold there hand out for 20p change or so they get the bags dropped at the edge of there property, this doesn't apply if there elderly or disabled in any way in those circumstances you just suck it up and carry to the door for them.

That's appreciation from the customer, round here they just fuck off and leave you stood at the gate expecting you to lump their bags to the door, 20p makes a lot of difference.

cant believe this tbh  i had one today from tesco to a right chithole of a area just up the road, fare came to 2.90, i got 2.90 , her house was about 4/5 housed down a cut, she wasn't old or infirm, so she took 2 bags down the cut & i just dumped the other 5 at the top of the cut, got back in the car & started reversing & she went mental, so as usual about 20 mins later the notice flashed on the datahead "can you call the office please " , i did then got asked why i left the bags at the top of the cut, i explained that there was no way in a million years i was going to leave my car unattended & running with my phone/moneybag/satnav in, in that area, & no way was i going to take all that stuff out, lock the car up either, they just said well, we explained that all you have to do is ASSIST with loading /unloading &you did , tbh i was so aghast at this , they actually stuck up for a driver !!!! she said that the wife told her not to send me again RESULT !!!! =D>

It's standard practice in our trade to do wait and returns at 1.5 times one way price it's often the difference between getting the job and the customer going elsewhere and if you drive enough away what are you left with

NOWT

yes but like i said its a gamble, tbh my mate would have passed through about 8 zones + where we regularly get graft from , he would have got a job, ok might have been a fiver or a 20 quid airport, like the first post said its about principles, she would have payed what's on the meter with me or could have just went shopping & called another for the return, i wouldn't be arsed tbh , the instant she said " we gonna strike a deal then " that would have been it for me , 1 way only, just for the cheek & if she said she was going to call another when she finished i would just have went & had a coffee & picked her up for full price for the return , just to wind her up  that fare meters about 17/18 quid each way
