Back to the top of the debate.

York and everywhere!

My view is there are far more illegally operating 'chauffeur vehicles' than 'local cabs' across the country outside London.

Licensing officers spend 99% of their time making sure those licensed are doing it 100% correctly rather than looking for and catching unlicensed operators.

Some time ago my licensing officer thought I was being unreasonable to expect him to pick up the yellow pages and look up the car hire- chauffeur driven section to find out who was operating in his area. A simple google search will suffice these days.

The sooner we get a nationwide enforcement unit with proper powers the better.

The same applies with VOSA/DVSA, they spend a fortune catching those of u who are legally licence but may err slightly, but do absolutely nothing about those who are unlicensed.

What about the "Speedboat round the bay" rides? they are inshore, operate off the quayside (in a LA presumably) so should need a licence

Hi all, just a little update, our licensing and trading standards officers have now taken on my plea to stop all these unlicensed chauffeurs in the york area and are having a massive crackdown on them, fingers crossed they will get the police involved.
