Well! If you take it to the letter, it does not say that it has got to be replaced once it is expired.

i.e Was it certified with the appropriate British Standard - Yes.
Was the date/reg/license plate number clearly visible - Yes.

As an aside. I did 10 years in Cardiff with a fire extinguisher got to be on board requirement....never once was it checked. So! who does the checking Or do they become a throw away job......and buy another one?

I thought you were about to spot the problem. If you check your fire extinguishers they do not have an expiry date on them. They have a date of manufacture. Check it out on line.

I would imagine that the annual date of maintenance supercedes the date of manufacture in terms of legality. If it went to court for whatever reason, then you can be sure that a court would take the view that you would know the expiry date, and by not servicing it, (you) have invalidated it.

We got fire extinguishers dropped years ago .....Firebrigade said leave it to the professionals..........ps if you have a guage..that tells if it is empty......first aid kits got dropped as well....when council realised they would be liable if they were used .

My testing station failed one of mine a few years ago for some reason. I borrowed one from one of my buses which had passed its annual psv test the previous day (it was inspected by a qualified VOSA examiner); they failed that one too as it looked too old! So I took one from another bus, signed the annual check box on it, took it back and it passed.

My local fire brigade also advised to take steps if the car catches fire...very big ones. Have you seen how quick a bus catches fire? There's several videos on youtube. A car would go a damn sight quicker.
