A chap (in N.I.) reckons hes got a 15 seat bus which he takes seats out down to 8 for PH work (on a plate) but also uses it at 15 seats on a D1, says he has dual plates....i.e. PH and O licence...

I know our LA would get confused....

The D1 will be working as a charity but he'll be taking payment.

Not sure that you can just remove seats and be licensed as a PH. Although I have seen a similar thing with a Charnwood licensed vehicle that clearly had more than 8 passenger seats when I saw it.

From memory there was a case, involving one of those stretch things, where the number of seat belts indicated how many seats the vehicle was licensed for.

But a PH is always a PH, and never a PSV. Even if it has a PSV license.

In my area once you plate a car for private hire it's illegal to remove the plates unless the cars plates are being surrendered, the same applies to door stickers though this is often flouted.

The charnwood vehicle was all plated and stickered up which is why it caught my attention when I counted 12 passenger seats.

Some up here do that, Sometimes it's a Coif D1 minibus, then the seats come out and it's a Plated PH, some also rent them out as a 16 Self Hire Minibus and driven on a basic Car License. God knows how they sort out Insurance on a vehicle wearing that many hats.

I used to know a Hertfordshire driver who had a psv/ph Volkswagen. As for self-drive psv, then the psv licence is a must for the driver. If it goes out with under 9 seats, then the driver must have a ph licence. simples.

Given he needs a CPC+O+DCPC+D1 (licence) for the + 8 seats hes only having the PH option so a a PH driver can drive it...

wouldnt it be simpler to just put his PH driver thru a D1+DCPC?

can a D1 vehicle work as PH?
