Probe after 100 complaints made about taxi drivers

Dundee City Council chiefs have launched a probe after more than 100 complaints have been made about taxi drivers in the city.

Taxi marshals have been monitoring the rank at the junction of Hawkhill and Brown Street and reported a variety of alleged breaches.

Some reports suggest that drivers have stopped on the dual carriageway at the entrance to the Grovesnor Casino on Marketgait and even stopping on the Westport Roundabout. Drivers have also been caught queue jumping at the rank.

A number of offences were reported on the marshal’s first three weekends on duty, starting from November 20.

A statement from the city council read: “Any taxi drivers found to be in breach of the regulations will be interviewed by council staff and could be referred to the Licensing Committee.

“Ultimately that could lead to offenders having their taxi driver’s licence suspended.”
