Once they are in the cab (you picked them up, you saw them from 50yds) you should use a good tone (hi guy's where you off too) to work out if they are going to be trouble, remember they have your money in their pocket, getting it is the objective, a little more (tip) and its job done.
Had a guy get in my cab one night, he punched the window between me and him, most cabbies would have kicked him right out the cab, I never, I said, did that make you feel better and why did you do it, his reply was, cabs with their lights on kept driving past him, it was then that I reminded him I stopped and then asked how's your hand, at the end of the journey I got the fare and a decent tip and another apology, I thought he was going to cry, inside I was thinking greet ya barsteward, yer hand looks like a balloon, my advice is to try and get them onside, if it fails, head straight to the police station but stay calm and keep your rage inside, don't be the loser.
Good luck.
& that's exactly the type of thing im on about, although i admire the way you handled the situation, i must admit i would have stopped the car, thrown him out & if i got anymore chit i would have battered him or got battered tbh
