I got a call yesterday from a driver who works for another company asking if I could cover a job for him this morning taking 3 ladies to church. I agreed.
Dispatched a car and after it had arrived it took forever to get one of the ladies in the car. They were being quite obnoxious to the driver as well. Anyway it took over 20 minutes to get them in the car. the driver then engaged the meter and the fare came to just over £8.00. He helped them into church and asked for the fare. One of the women gave him £5.00 and said that is what they paid the usual driver. Obviously I will make this right with the driver but I wont be taking any more work from the other Company's driver. I hate having the pi55 taken like this.

What they pay the other driver/company is up to them! Your driver/yourself is a different matter, raising stink over it with them would not matter, as your company will never pick them up again anyway. As an aside; what if everyone adopted that attitude....oh I know the meter says xx....but I am not paying what yours says! not on in my book.

Indeed, I rang him and told him to get some other mug to cover the return.

we have ended up covering a job for a local independent driver 3 times recently again he does it in the middle of rush hour for a £5 should meter approx £7. The thing is though on another occasion the situation could be reversed and we need to ask him for a favour it works both ways

The difference here is that we don't expect anyone to work for nothing. If we were to ask another company or driver to do a job for us, it would be at their rate and not ours.

this is what i would have done, the old people are the worst imho, i had nothing but chit on boxing day as we were on tariff 2 , most thought it was just xmas day , the fares were a hundred yards down the street, one old wife in particular who all the drivers hate, kicked up a right fuss, how long re these fares going to be this expensive, its disgusting that you charge extra just because its xmas, i just said if you think i am giving up my holidays to drive a miserable old woman like you up the street you are mistaken, she was off to a coffee morning at the church, the church was shut & it wasn't on   so had to take her back home , i knew it was shut, but like a say shes a horrible old woman

In some respects it's quite good that is has only cost £3 to find out about this driver and the firm.

Money well spent.

That is the philosophical way to look at it I suppose.
