All depends on the operator at the time.

If you have an experienced one they clear the job and then put you back on.

If you have an inexperienced kid, then anything can happen.

Peanuts and monkeys.

it's the age old saying patience is a virtue

customers often don't see you or rely on a phone call or text to tell them your there I usually get out of my car and knock the door works 9 times out of 10 as I resent wasting fuel pulling off a job I'd sooner wait a couple more minutes than 10 minutes driving to another job or the rank. In my experience 70 to 80 percent of NPU's are down to impatient drivers

I agree with most of this especially doing as much as possible to make contact with the customer for several reasons, a lot of customers don't get there ass in gear till the taxi turns up, they may be at the back of the property where they can't see or hear you, there may be no one in which means there's no point sitting there five minutes, it could be a base cock up Ie right address wrong time etc. If I knock and get no answer if I have a contact number I will then ring it as base might have got the house number wrong and your customer is ready to pick up just a few doors away.
The only thing I differ on is the reason for NPU's in my experience it's more or less equally divided between base errors, customers and drivers not making the effort to make contact with the customers.

We have just started using text back for bookings made by mobile phone. The customer gets a text when the car has been dispatched and another when it arrives. It has cut down our waiting time no end. For advance bookings the customer also gets a confirmation text. This has also been very successful because if there has been a base cock up the customer will ring back and correct it.

new base has textback (if a mobile number is on the job) ---- great idea...your taxi is waiting

In my experience 70 to 80 percent of NPU's are down to customers taking the pi55.

i agree with this comment, we use text back/( or call back for landlines , REMEMBER THEM KIDS ! ) and have done all the time i have been at this firm, i can send a text when im 5 mins or more from the job & they still aint ready ffs , its so annoying, also what they started doing around here is call 2 firms , the one that gets there first gets the job, i have pulled up at a house while the people are driving off in another cab, still the office send another car to the same address even after you tell them what they have done

and the truth is in-between...
I send a text/ring back few mins before I'm there, if they're not out after few mins I usually make a call to contact them, works most times... knocing a door is a last thing to do....
funniest of all is when you're booked for exact time and in job description it states "please be prompt", then I'm five mins before, sending text, five mins past booking time make a call to hear "two mins, mate"

What about those who book it straight away from the local boozer, when you pull up they'll come to the door and say 5 minutes I'm just finishing my pint off? I wave at them when I'm pulling away.
